Denmark is recognized as one of the least corrupt countries globally, with strong laws against bribery and corruption enforced by the Ministry of Justice. However, the OECD has expressed concerns regarding Denmark's insufficient prioritization of preventing and penalizing foreign bribery, highlighting a lack of resources and awareness of risks faced by Danish companies abroad. Despite achieving its first foreign bribery conviction in 2019, the OECD recommends that Denmark develop a comprehensive strategy to combat foreign bribery and enhance its legal framework.
Economy
Greenland's economy is predominantly driven by the fishing industry, which constitutes over 90% of its exports, primarily through shrimp and fish. The territory also has significant mineral resources, with ongoing exploration for rubies and other minerals, while the public sector is heavily supported by grants from the Danish government.
Greenland's investment climate is shaped by its abundant natural resources, particularly minerals and potential oil reserves, although recent government actions have halted new oil and gas exploration. The territory's strategic location and increasing interest from global powers enhance its attractiveness for investments, especially in renewable energy and tourism. However, environmental concerns and reliance on Danish financial support pose challenges to creating a more favorable investment environment.
