Denmark is recognized as one of the least corrupt countries globally, with strong laws against bribery and corruption enforced by the Ministry of Justice. However, the OECD has expressed concerns regarding Denmark's insufficient prioritization of preventing and penalizing foreign bribery, highlighting a lack of resources and awareness of risks faced by Danish companies abroad. Despite achieving its first foreign bribery conviction in 2019, the OECD recommends that Denmark develop a comprehensive strategy to combat foreign bribery and enhance its legal framework.
Economy
Greenland's economy is predominantly driven by the fishing industry, which constitutes over 90% of its exports, mainly through shrimp and fish. The public sector is significant, with about half of government revenues sourced from Danish grants, while the territory also has valuable mineral resources that are becoming increasingly important as global prices rise.
Greenland's investment climate is shaped by its abundant natural resources, particularly in minerals and hydrocarbons, although recent bans on oil and gas exploration have redirected focus towards sustainable development. The government is actively seeking to attract foreign investment while balancing environmental concerns and the preservation of traditional practices, which can present challenges due to reliance on Danish financial support and regulatory frameworks.
